Natural stone profile: Light Emperador marble

We continue here a series of articles about some of the most important Spanish natural stones that can be found on the international market. We present here the Light Emperador marble, one of the reference Spanish marbles.


Background

The Light Emperador is mostly explored around the town of Bunol, which is located in the region of Valencia - southeast of Spain. The Light Emperador marble is explored by a single quarry around the town of Bunol. There are also some variations of the Light Emperador being explored by different quarries around the towns of Castril de la Pena and Venta Quemada, both located on the Granada province. The quarries are considered of medium to large dimension (particularly the one in Bunol), where the blocks extracted have a large dimension.


Description

The Light Emperador is a light brown coloured marble, with fine grain and abundant irregular and crossed yellowish veinage. It presents some occasional white calcite with small do medium dimension. Its main variations depend on the honey tonality that it can be more or less dark and uniform.

The genuine Light Emperador presents some clear white areas. But because of the advanced age and exploration of quarries, it has become a rarity.

The Light Emperador is a well-known and internationally recognized Spanish natural stone, being found in different types of applications pretty much everywhere. Nonetheless, the types of applications that have given the most credit to this marble are found in interior decoration. Here it is common to find amazing applications of Light Emperador in fireplaces, diverse furniture, bathroom design, kitchen countertops, among others.

The Light Emperador marble is commonly found on the market in the forms of:
