Natural stone profile: Crema Marfil marble

We begin here a series of articles about some of the most important Spanish natural stones that can be found on the international market. We start with the Crema Marfil, undoubtly the most famous marble from Spain and one of the most recognized natural stones all over the world.

Background
The Crema Marfil marble is mostly explored in the area around the town of Pinoso, located in the region of Valencia – southeastern of Spain. The quarries are considered of large dimension, both in the Coto and Zafra areas, where the two main varieties of Crema Marfil are explored. The blocks extracted are normally of large dimension for slabs and smaller dimension for tiles.

Description
There are currently several variations for the Crema Marfil marble. However, the two most relevant and well-known types of Crema Marfil available in the market are:

- Crema Marfil Coto: light-beige yellowish coloured marble, with uniform background. It presents some occasional irregular darker veinage and some fossils. It is the most recognized type of Crema Marfil.

- Crema Marfil Zafra: light beige-white coloured marble, with fine grain and uniform background. It may present some slightly darker small and irregular veinage. It is the 2nd most recognized type of Crema Marfil.

Recommended applications
The Crema Marfil is possibly the most famous and internationally recognized Spanish natural stone, with different applications found pretty much everywhere. Despite this fame, the types of applications where the Crema Marfil is most commonly found are in exterior cladding, flooring and decoration. This amazing marble is also found in coverings, as well as different applications such as bath design (shower trays and basins) and several others.

The Crema Marfil is commonly found in the market in the forms of:
- slabs
- tiles
- blocks
- finished product (decoration, cladding, etc)

The Crema Marfil marble is an internationally recognized marble that can be found pretty much everywhere. Despite this, some of the markets where it has the largest demand are:
